There’s a problem: Young adults aging out of foster care are some of the most vulnerable members of our society. Left to fend for themselves at age 18, these youth consequently becoming some of society’s most forgotten, abused, and marginalized. Homelessness, incarceration, and human trafficking are just some of the negative outcomes pervading this crisis.
Only 71% of foster youth will receive a high school diploma by age nineteen.
61% of former foster youth experiencing homelessness are likely to be incarcerated.
Youth aging out of foster care have consistent earnings below the poverty line.
After reaching the age of eighteen, 20% of the children who were in foster care will become instantly homeless.
More than ever we need to be proactive, refusing to accept the label life and society has stamped on these youth, and instead, offer them a different label… one of “leader.” We believe that every broken story is a leader in the making. Together, we can bring hope and empower transitional age youth for the courage it will take them as they step into adulthood as a leader.
